Sketching and low-fidelity wireframes

After an initial round of collaborative sketching sessions, traditional low-fidelity wireframe sketches were created. These sketches allowed us to quickly communicate ideas with key stakeholders, and get immediate feedback. Low-fidelity wireframes allowed for quick turn around times for idea generation and feedback.

Wall critique

More developed sketches were placed on the wall of a busy section of our office, and I invited people to leave Post-It comments for feedback.

User testing

When I developed the designs into a higher fidelity, I organised our first round of user testing. In the past, we had a hit and miss nature with the quality of user respondents when we had used external recruitment companies. As we were developing a very niche app, we focused our recruitment to IG clients who were currently using our existing iPhone web platform, and clients who had previously expressed an interest in IG offering an iPhone app.

We offered an incentive of £100 for a 1-hour research session. This targeted approach was very successful, with nearly a 20% response rate.

Launch and rollout

I worked on the strategy for the rollout of the app, and the methodology for getting the app to as many users as possible. After the iPhone app release was received to a great deal of success, I continued to work on the Android, Windows Phone and iPad versions of the app.
